Originally an ancient Chinese martial art, Tai Chi is practiced today for health, balance, strength and flexibility.  Learn some of the most popular and well known bare-hand forms of Tai Chi including the 8, 10, and 24 step Modern Yang Style. It is suitable for adults of all ages.

Qi Gong is for those interested in the benefits of Tai Chi without memorizing complex choreography.  This practice places an emphasis on breath and moving and increasing internal energy for personal healing.

Flow classes that emphasize strength and stability first and flexibility as an integral part of the whole.  Get ready to move personal energy as well as your body as we take part in mini retreats for the body and spirit.  These classes are designed to provide more than just physical exercise.  What do you need to release today?

Sit in Circle with other women as we explore the impact of myth and legend on women and their place in the world. We'll discuss the original version of a selected folktale and our relationship to our ancestors and generational trauma.  We will share triumphs and trials, journal and rewrite a personal folktale, walk in nature, and create a small painting to honor our mothers, grandmothers and all the wise women who came before us.  You will also receive an ancestral candle to honor and remember loved ones who have journeyed before you.

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes appropriate for walking in nature.  If weather permits we will take a short walk and look for natural items that are symbolic to you and your concept of ancestor.  If weather doesn't permit, we will practice a very accessible blend of qi gong, yoga and free form movement indoors.

Sit in Circle with other women as we continue to explore the impact of our stories and place in the world. We'll read an old, beloved poem about giving and receiving and the role of gratitude in our lives as well as how we each conceptualize giving and receiving.  Many women I know have difficulty receiving gifts for themselves.  They spend so much time and energy nurturing others they begin to feel greedy if they ask for something for themselves.  What do the acts of giving and receiving mean to us?

Using writing prompts taken from our poem we will reflect on our ability to both give and receive with gratitude.  Each attendee will create a gratitude centerpiece to take home.  Weather permitting, we will take a meditative walk in nature and practice appreciation through a fusion of yoga, qi gong and free form movement.

Coming soon...

Sit in Circle with other women as we celebrate the ending of the lunar cycle and the longest night.  Women have long had a mythic connection to the night and the magic that the dark holds.  When did we become afraid of the dark?  When did we decide darkness was evil?  When did we give up our power and begin striving for another person's definition of strength?  To begin unraveling this Gordian knot, we will discuss the intersection of ancient and modern winter traditions and stories - and their relationship to women.

Be prepared with a journal and writing tools, comfortable clothes, and an open, curious mind.  We will indulge in a fusion of free form movement, yoga, and qi gong to prepare for the creation of a Yule Log to take home and burn on the longest night.

The Story of the 13th Moon

The 13th Moon was born in sisterhood and sacred ritual in the moonglow of soft and sorrowful nights and the heat of joyfully leaping bonfires as I explored my place in the world.  With trauma from past abuse, mental and physical, I often struggled to live up to my own expectations and deal with the empathy that comes along with learning to anticipate an abuser's actions and reactions.  My way of coping was to take classes, and often become as perfect at what I learned as I possibly could.  This unhealthy and impossible perfectionism was a trauma response to my history of abuse.  Once I understood what I was doing to myself, change was inevitable.

On my journey of self-healing I've meet many people, particularly fem identifying, that have similar stories.  My friends and I have taken classes and Circled together to talk, to learn, to heal old hurts and  plant seeds of rebirth in the dark fertile loam of our inmost beings.  We have Circled with and around each other - supporting and nurturing each other as only women can - playing with our curiosity and nourishing our lives through sisterhood, creativity, and an exuberant celebration of life and all it offers.

The joy I found in our personal Circle has inspired me to share that same support with those called to find community and change in a time and place where it is difficult to connect.  I welcome you to the Classes, Circles and Sessions of The13th Moon.
